Horror Stories from the Field
I have to say that I really love being a Home Inspector. I meet great people some of which are buying their first home and hoping to start building their future. I also get to view the in’s and out’s of all kinds of properties, from very fancy to very modest.
I have put together a small grouping of photographs for this post that shows what I find and why it’s so important to hire a quality home inspector. Let’s take a look;
This picture clearly shows exposed roof deck boards. It also shows that there was no drip edge flashing installed. Overall, a very poorly installed roof.
This next picture shows a roof rafter in a garage that does not make it to the top plate. The garage had experienced a fire and apparently no one felt the need to replace or sister new rafters to the damaged ones.
You would be surprised how many times I find junction boxes open and wires hanging out like the one in the photograph. This property had quite a few that will need to have covers put on.
It never ceases to amaze me the number of times I find that someone has cut into the bottom of a floor joist and weakened the overall structure.
This was just a sampling of what I find during the course of a home inspection. If you or someone you know needs a property inspected I hope you will give me a call.
